McMunn & Yates is helping to build a healthy community with a big donation to the “A Sense of Home” campaign.
The building supplies company, along with its flooring store Jenkins Flooring, located in Brandon, has donated $100,000 to the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation’s campaign to build the Murray House Cancer Treatment Residence.
“We are so thrilled to announce the generous support of McMunn & Yates Building Supplies,” campaign co-chair Kerry Auriat said.

“We thank the management, staff and customers of McMunn & Yates, across Manitoba and southeastern Saskatchewan, for their contribution to Murray House and their commitment to a healthy future for all cancer patients and their families.”
As a company that stretches all across Manitoba and into Saskatchewan, McMunn & Yates officials said they saw the donation as a chance to give back to the community that has been so generous to their organization over the years.
“McMunn & Yates have always believed in supporting community projects that will enhance the lives and attend to the needs of all Manitobans,” company president Jason Yates said. “This why we feel it is important to bolster initiatives such as ‘A Sense of Home.’
“One of the ways we want to contribute is to help build a comfortable home away from home for those who seek cancer treatment in Brandon. We are more than just a building supply company, we want to help build a healthy community.”
McMunn & Yates began in 1971 with the opening of its first store in Dauphin. Shortly after, the store was hit with a devastating fire that could have been a crushing blow to the fledgling company. However, with the help and support of volunteers within the community, the company were able to rebuild immediately.
The company has grown to 16 retail locations in Manitoba and Saskatchewan, with a distribution centre in Headingley and a truss manufacturing plant in Dauphin.
The “A Sense of Home” campaign will help fund the construction of Murray House, which will provide accommodations for patients and visitors from all areas of western Manitoba travelling to Brandon for cancer treatment.
Now sitting at approximately the $2.47 million mark, the campaign is fast approaching its proposed goal of $2.5 million.
The Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation has determined that the capital campaign will remain active until the tender process is complete. The Murray House project went to tender on Sept. 25, with a closing date of Oct. 16.
The campaign committee has indicated that another major sponsor announcement is expected in the coming weeks.
“The momentum in the community has been remarkable,” campaign co-ordinator Karen Chrest said.
“I think it speaks volumes about the cause, as well as the spirit of western Manitobans.”
