Show respect for the war dead
Premier Greg Selinger appears to have lost his mind. Did he really say that parents should be able to opt their children out of Remembrance Day services? Our forefathers stood, fought and died for our rights of freedom. This isn’t about religion. This isn’t about sexual education. And this isn’t about some New Democratic cracked-up political correctness. Apologize now, sir!
It is our duty to show respect
Premier Greg Selinger says opting out of Remembrance Day, a matter of religious freedoms. Shame on you, premier! Your passing grade of 50 per cent that Manitobans approved of you has plummeted, by your remarks. It is our duty — we have an obligation — to respect and honour those who served, and those who still serve, for their sacrifices so you could make such an offensive statement. Remembrance Day services and religious freedoms are two very different dedications.
Have respect for the poppy
I think it’s time that people started honoring the poppy policy if they want to really show support and respect for the military vets and wear the poppy as the policy states. That is no flag pins or anything else in the center of the poppy. It’s not for what you think is pretty, but respect for the poppy and what it stands for. If you are scared you will lose the poppy, once you have it on your clothing, get a pair of pliers and bend the tip of the pin over and it will stay in place. Please start showing the proper respect or don’t wear the poppy.
Show some respect in your own country
Where was our prime minister on Remembrance Day in Ottawa? Marking the occasion overseas does not cut it in my mind. Show up and show some respect for the veterans! The only reason he can embark on a trade mission to Asia is because of their sacrifice. Shameful!
Mayor Shari, you have my support
You say in your Sound Off, “We, the people, would love a production company filming in Brandon.” Let’s get this perfectly straight. You definitely do not speak for me. Please use I, not we, in your comments. Mayor Shari Decter Hirst is either the best, or one of the best mayors that Brandon has ever had. What an uphill battle Mayor Shari must be facing, at times, within this city of sometimes adolescent, dysfunctional behaviours and attitudes. Go, Mayor Shari, go!
More about a casino
Building the Spirit Sands Casino in the middle of nowhere — how ludicrous is that? A loss to Brandon and what a pity. What is going on? Just an hour and a half drive from Brandon to a new classy casino and hotel in Belcourt, N.D. — that is where Brandon and area folks will be. Just toss it away and I do mean the Spirit Sands Casino plans!
It is not “we”
Why does the Brandon Sun keep on printing, “City is still pursuing casino?” The city has voted twice — no casino, it is the mayor who is pursuing the casino.
What does it mean anyway?
What a waste of City of Brandon taxpayers’ money on the new welcome to Brandon signs. I don’t know who designed these signs but why do they not even say “Welcome to Brandon”? What does all the scribbling and lines on these signs mean anyway? It doesn’t make any sense to me. I am sure disappointed with these signs.
