Hey there, time traveller!

Transit takers in the city of Brandon now have a way to catch the bus on their smartphones.
Adding to their storehouse of open data, the city has launched transit routes on Google Maps. People will now be able to effortlessly plan their trip with the click of a mouse or the touch of a screen.
“Brandon Transit is extremely pleased to be able to offer this type of ‘right at your fingertips’ information for our users,” said Carla Richardson, the city’s transit manager. “We are celebrating 100 years of public transit in Brandon in 2013, so to be able to launch a technological feature like this to our customers at this time shows how far we’ve come and that we are continually striving to improve our service.”
The service, which can be accessed by visiting Google Maps on a desktop web browser or on a smartphone, allows a commuter to easily plan their trip using Brandon Transit routes. Public transit directions will now appear as an alternative to driving directions and station stop icons will appear on the Google Maps image..
In addition to giving walking directions to the closest bus stops, the Google Transit Web Service also displays the total trip time and cost and shows if there are any bus transfer points required.
“We are pleased to welcome Brandon to Google Maps,” said Ryan Poscharsky, a strategic partner manager at Google. “This partnership shows Brandon’s commitment to innovating, as well as serving and attracting new riders. Together we can provide useful and accurate information to help people quickly get to where they want to go.”
The Google Transit feature has transit system information for 800 cities worldwide, providing schedule information for more than one million transit stop around the world. Brandon Transit users can also link to the Google Transit Web Service by visiting brandontransit.ca.
The launch of the Google Transit Web Service for Brandon Transit follows the recent automation of its fleet’s farebox system in late 2012.
