The Westman Volleyball Club U18 girls’ team won a silver medal at the national U18 girls Division 2 championship in Edmonton on May 12. Westman got off to a great start to the tournament, going 3-0 in the preliminary round and 2-1 in its power pool to reach the Tier 1 playoffs.

The Westman Volleyball Club U18 girls’ team won a silver medal at the national U18 girls Division 2 championship in Edmonton on May 12. Westman got off to a great start to the tournament, going 3-0 in the preliminary round and 2-1 in its power pool to reach the Tier 1 playoffs.

The team ran into tough competition there, but slipped past the Lethbridge Kodiaks 2-1 (25-21, 23-25, 15-7) in the quarter-finals before topping the London Fire 2-1 (20-25, 25-16, 15-13) in the semifinals. They lost the Tier 1 final 2-0 (25-23, 25-20) to the Montreal Celtique. Carmen Hutsal led Westman’s attack with six kills. Natasha Rupa had three kills and 10 digs. Tristan Neudorf and Kailin Robinson also had three kills. Several Westman communities are represented on the team.
