A teenage girl was choked and sexually assaulted in an attack that sent her to hospital over the weekend. Police released details Tuesday, once they had made an arrest.
Staff at the Brandon Regional Health Centre first reported the apparent assault around noon on Saturday. Police say that the 17-year-old victim had been at the home of a man she knew on Friday afternoon when she got into an argument with him.
The man apparently got angry and struck her several times with a necklace before choking her on a bed and sexually assaulting her.
Police tracked down the male suspect, a 19-year-old Brandon man, and arrested him Monday. He was to appear in court Monday morning, on charges of assault with a weapon, sexual assault and choking to overcome resistance.
