The Tri-Wave Trout Pond is now open at the Riverbank Discovery Centre.
The pond is intended for children, accompanied by an adult, to enjoy an urban fishing experience. More than 100 rainbow and brown trout fingerlings were released into the pond, which should result in successful fishing trips for young anglers.
Families are asked to practise catch-and-release so that others may enjoy the same experience.
The pond was a few weeks away from opening when the 2011 flood washed away the docks and flooded the pond with invasive species.
After two years of rebuilding, the pond is back in working order and was recently stocked with trout through Manitoba Conservation and Water Stewardship.
The opening of the Tri-Wave Trout Pond marks an important step forward in reclaiming and revitalizing the riverbank area to once again be the community’s gathering place and provides another activity to be enjoyed in the summer months.
The public is reminded that only barbless hooks are to be used in Manitoba, and that the area is to be vacated from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m., pursuant to city bylaws.
