After 30 years as KX96, Brandon’s classic rock radio station has now been rebranded to BOB-FM.
The new station — which launched this morning — will retain its current staff, but the music will shift from only classic hits to “adult pop hits,” says spokesperson Chris Brooke.
BOB-FM stations in Canada are mostly owned by Bell Media.
KX96 was owned by Astral Media, which was taken over by Bell in a $3.4 billion deal earlier this year.
And while KX96 “Westman’s best rock” was popular with males, the new format is designed as “a 50/50 split” for men and women listeners, Brooke said today.
The popular BOB concept originated in Winnipeg in the ’90s and has spread across the continent.
