Brandon University Bobcats libero Donata Huebert’s record-tying performance has earned her the nod as the Canada West conference third star of the week.
The native of Minden, Germany racked up 35 digs in a win last Wednesday over the Wesmen, tying the third all-time highest total in a Canada West conference match and matching the league record for most digs in a four-set match. Huebert, the 2010-11 CIS libero of the year, helped the Bobcats sweep the home-and-home series with the Wesmen to improve to 14-4 on the season, giving Brandon its highest win total in a season in the nine-year history of the team.
Huebert, who has helped the Bobcats clinch a playoff spot, leads the team in digs (219) and sits fifth in Canada West.
The Bobcats remain ranked second in the country, behind the UBC Thunderbirds, while BU’s men’s volleyball team (8-10) has slipped from seven to ninth in this week’s CIS top 10.
Brandon plays host to Trinity Western on Friday and Saturday at the Healthy Living Centre.
