Dylan Favell scored the shootout winner for the Swan Valley Stampeders as they knocked off the visiting Virden Oil Capitals 5-4 in a preview of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League’s Sher-Wood Division semifinals on Friday night.
Elsewhere on Friday, it was: Neepawa Natives 3, Dauphin Kings 2 (SO); Selkirk Steelers 6, Winkler Flyers 3; and Steinbach Pistons 4, Winnipeg Blues 2.
At Swan River, Bo Sigurdson scored twice in regulation time for the Stampeders (27-29-3), while Boissevain’s Jagger Thomas picked up a pair of assists. Artsiom Kalashnikov had a pair of markers for the Oil Capitals (32-22-4), who also got singles from Cole Hamblin and Rob Newton.
Natives 3 Kings 2 (SO)
At Neepawa, Brady Bouchard tied the game on a power-play with 5:45 left in regulation time and Jaret Smith was the only player to score in the shootout for the Natives (14-40-5). Boissevain’s Sam Houston also scored for Neepawa, which got 38 saves from Matthieu Verreault. Brandonite Brayden Cuthbert netted both markers for the Kings (39-18-2) but failed to convert in the shootout.
Steelers 6 Flyers 3
At Selkirk, Soren Fredriksen and Erik Pushka both scored twice for the Steelers (48-7-4), while Parker Thomas added a goal and four helpers. Hayden Berra, Michael Sofillas and Evan Last replied for the Flyers (18-36-4).
Pistons 4 Blues 2
At Winnipeg, Colin Beaudry had two goals and a helper for the Pistons (40-16-2), who locked up second place in the Addison Division, while Hayden Goderis and Nicholas Kobelka both had a goal and two assists. Mitch Hansen and Jake Stilwell scored for the Blues (31-21-6).
