Brandon’s new Rosser Ward councillor says he counted 49 burned-out street lights while touring the downtown ward Thursday night — including six lights in a row on one dark stretch of Lorne Avenue.

"(This) could be one of the reasons our residents don’t feel safe going out at night," wrote Kris Desjarlais in a post on Facebook that he also Tweeted.

He says his count was done in about 90 minutes from 10:30 p.m. to midnight on Thursday, and doesn’t include lights one private properties, nor back lanes, alleys or city walking paths.

The lights are installed and maintained by Manitoba Hydro, and the city provides a page on its website to help people report burned-out lights. That page says people should phone Hydro at 204-727-9311, or 1-888-624-9376, with the address or intresection of the burned-out light.
