Cartwright’s Tristan Mullin set up Braydon MacDonald’s game-winning goal, with 1:23 left in the third period, as the Swan Valley Stampeders topped the Waywayseecappo Wolverines 4-3 on Wednesday in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.
In last night’s other MJHL games, it was: Steinbach Pistons 2, Neepawa Natives 0; and OCN Blizzard 8, Dauphin Kings 4.
In Waywayseecappo, MacDonald had a goal and an assist as the Stamps (18-17-5) blew a 3-0 first-period lead but recovered to snap a four-game losing streak. B.J. Avery of Clearwater, Gavin Froese and Bo Sigurdson also scored for Swan Valley.
Landyn Cochrane of Russell and Aaron Dupasquier each had a goal and an assist for the Wolverines (14-25-3), who got their other goal from Connor Bass. Graham Hunt made 30 saves in the Swan Valley net.
Pistons 2 Natives 0
In Steinbach, Nick Deery stole the show with a 37-save shutout. Colin Baudry scored the opening goal and assisted on Cole Smith’s insurance tally as the Pistons (25-10-6) moved into a tie with the Winnipeg Blues for second place.
Alex Henry made 32 saves for the last-place Natives (11-30-2).
Blizzard 8 Kings 4
In The Pas, Brendan Barron scored three goals and set up two others for OCN.
Devin Muir had a goal and three assists for the Blizzard (15-22-3), while Camacho Lathlin had a goal and two assists, and Russell’s Jordan Cullum scored once and set up another marker. Brody Claeys of Ste. Rose du Lac made 24 saves for the goaltending win.
Mathieu Lapointe had a goal and an assist, while Kirklan Lycar, Ryan Edevold and Chance Thomas also scored for the Kings (15-20-6).
