Hey there, time traveller!

“I am so excited about doing what I am doing. I love to help people and I like to take extra time to make sure that people understand what they are taking and why they are taking it.”
Ian Trembath’s philosophy about his new business is simple — he wants to help people by developing a community minded pharmacy.
“I have always wanted to address the pharmacy from a throwback kind of way, back to the ways pharmacies used to be. They used to be an integral part of the community where people could access the pharmacy and the pharmacist and ask questions. I want to be that pharmacist,” Trembath said.
And, he’s on his way to creating just that with his new business, Flatland Drugs, which opened just a few months ago. Located at 1340 10th St. within Rotary Villas at Crocus Gardens, Flatland Drugs was designed to offer residents an easy-to-access pharmacy to help them with their daily needs, plus serve the community at large.
Flatland Drugs offers a full range of pharmaceutical services — everything from injection services to blister packing. They also provide medication reviews, carry a wide selection of over the counter products, a full range of prescription products and offer free delivery.
Trembath, who has been practising in Brandon for seven years, is grateful for the experience he gained working as a pharmacist at Real Canadian Superstore and has found the change to becoming a business owner rewarding.
“It’s been an excellent experience for myself both professionally and developmentally to go from a position of being a staff pharmacist at a very busy pharmacy to opening one up on my own and taking on the role of staff pharmacist, manager and owner all at once.
“It’s had a whole host of new challenges and I’ve been up for it and it’s been absolutely excellent. My last role really prepared me for this. I had some excellent mentors and excellent co-workers that I learnt a tremendous amount from, so I really benefited from that.”
Flatland Drugs isn’t associated with any chains or brands and is an independent pharmacy. Trembath likes to refer to it as a family oriented, mom-and-pop organization as his wife, Deanna, and their oldest son help him with day-to-day operations. He also has a pharmacy assistant on staff.
In conjunction with Meredith Medical, a medical clinic also onsite at Rotary Villas, the plan is to offer a flu clinic this fall. This coincides with other injection services that Flatland Drugs offers.
Other injectables include anything from immunizations to birth control; some of the more popular ones include the shingles vaccine, travel and flu shots and pneumonia vaccinations. Trembath is also trained to prescribe for 15 self-limited ailments.
“Self-limiting ailments include disorders that would go away without any kind of intervention — things like morning sickness for pregnant women or if you’ve had contact with poison ivy and have a rash. Those types of things when it’s an acute, immediate issue, but it is an ailment that will go away. There are 15 such disorders that I can prescribe for,” Trembath said.
Flatland Drugs is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. For more information, call 204-727-0011.
