A trio of Brandon University Bobcat volleyball players were recognized by the Canada West conference on Tuesday.

Left side hitter Roy Ching was named a men’s first-team conference all-star while middle Mason Metcalf made the all-rookie team. Libero Donata Huebert was named a women’s second-team conference all-star.

Although the Bobcat men struggled to a 7-17 record and missed the playoffs, Ching was a force all season. The New Zealand import led the conference with 408 kills and 4.58 per set and was third with 0.37 aces per set.

Metcalf, who’s from Carman, led the Bobcats with 57 blocks and was second on the squad with 15 aces. He also had a .322 attack percentage.

Huebert, who’s from Minden, Germany, was fifth in the conference with 292 digs and by averaging 3.28 per set. The Bobcats’ all-time digs leader was a first-team all-Canadian last season and won the Canadian Interuniversity Sport libero of the year award for a third time in her career. The fourth-year player is not eligible for the award this season as Canada West changed its award structure and eliminated positional awards. The all-star teams are now decided by position.

Huebert helped the Bobcats finish fifth in the conference with a 15-9 record. They fell in the quarter-finals to the UBC Thunderbirds but host the CIS championship from March 11 to 13.
