WINNIPEG — Manitoba’s New Democrats say they will create a 24-hour centre for vulnerable women in downtown Winnipeg if they are re-elected.
Candidate Nahanni Fontaine says the party would work with community agencies to create the centre.
She says women need options when they are facing violence and everyone has to do more to protect indigenous women.
Fontaine says the NDP has already committed $1 million to end violence against women and part of that funding would go toward the centre.
Leader Greg Selinger was in Brandon on Tuesday morning to announce promised funding for new soccer pitches and was scheduled to make another recreational announcement in Winnipeg later in the day.
Voters cast their ballots April 19.
