Still some great people out there
I was in Brandon last Thursday to do some cancer testing and while in Brandon I decided to go to the Rotary book sale. There was a lot to choose from. I was up in the lineup and I didn’t have enough money to pay — I think I was short $2 — after already putting some back. But I was still $2 short, so I was going to put back a cookbook on how to bake custard that this woman had helped be find. She came up and paid for it for me. I just thought everyone should know that there are some very nice people out there and I wish you all could meet her.
Tory cuts actually did happen, Mr. Ross
I take exception to the Deveryn Ross opinion piece in the March 26 paper. I, for one, was one of the Conservative government cuts that Mr. Ross claims did not happen in the ‘90s.
We all know where Trump would be
In response to the Sound Off, “Where Would Trump Be In Canada?” Of course he would be a Conservative who shares their vision of privatizing everything, tax breaks for the rich and cancelling universal health care. He would then make himself CEO or owner of all the private companies.
I’m not paying for your babysitter
Regarding the articles about full-day or half-day kindergarten. Should we really be paying out of our taxes to babysit your child so you can go to work every day so you can have all those fancy toys to play with? Come on, stay home with your kids or look after them properly.
Pets love to go for a ride
Regarding pets in cars. My little dog goes everywhere with me. She lays still in the backseat bed. In the summer, the car is left running with the air on and in the winter with the heat on. Most dogs love riding in cars and have a right to. Owners need to train them not to move around. And to you non-dog lovers — MYOB.
Some suggestions for the golf course
My hats off to the city for all the work they have put into the course. It’s getting better every year. As to the trees along No. 10 and 18, they were an eyesore and needed to be taken out. Great improvement! When you’re done, plant some trees to replace the dead trees you removed. It’s a great asset to Brandon and should be maintained. Oh by the way, there is nothing the matter with the clubhouse. Give the restaurant to the Keystone Centre to run, apply to the government or Hydro for some grants to fix the roof and put a new kitchen in — no brainer!
Losing a few trees will save us money
The city made the right decision in removing some of the trees west of the tennis courts to get fill to build up the dikes. Obviously this will save the taxpayer money rather than paying for fill and hauling it a long distance. Anyone who has ever been down there well knows that over time many of the these poplar trees on the dike die off and fall in the river. They are not 200-year-old oaks. The other smart thing the city did was not advertise what they were going to do as sure as heck some of our locals would have been down there chaining themselves to the trees. Good job, guys!
