Opinion

Hey there, time traveller!

Sell Off Vacations didn’t travel a far distance, but they did make a new home for themselves in Brandon. The company moved from their Eighth Street location (across from the Real Canadian Superstore) to 1300 18th St. in June.

Manager Jennifer Murray said the business has been growing, so they were looking for a bit more space.

“We’ve been in Brandon for 10 years and we knew there was an opportunity to grow the business even more. We now have a bigger office and the Sell Off branch in Brandon is actually a flagship store with the complete renovations that were done. It’s very exciting,” Murray said.

Although the company has had a retail location for a decade in Brandon, Murray said that many people only think of Sell Off Vacations as an online business, so the added visibility of being on one of the busiest streets in Brandon has made more of their customers aware of their local office.

To celebrate their new location, they are have a Grand Opening event on Oct. 1. There will be exclusive offers that day, making it a great time to book your next holiday. As well, there will be a chance to win a trip for two to Mexico.

Sell Off Vacations is a full-service travel agency with three employees (currently hiring another team member as well!) that is open seven days a week and some days even until 8 p.m.

They enjoy meeting with new and existing customers and believe they have a lot to offer as travel consultants.

“There are a lot of benefits to booking with a travel agent. Some people aren’t comfortable booking online by themselves, plus we see offers that you might not find online. We know all the dos and don’ts of the industry and have the expertise. We can offer advice and have the knowledge to book any type of trip whether it’s a Caribbean cruise, a sun holiday or European vacation. We get to know our customers and know what they like and dislike so we can help to book trips that you’re thoroughly enjoy,” Murray said.

Light the candles

Christie’s Office Plus will be lighting 135 candles as they celebrate their big anniversary this upcoming week. As a thank you, and part of their birthday celebration, they will be holding their annual Customer Appreciation Day on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 705 Pacific Ave.

There will be a variety of vendors from across Canada representing some of the product lines that they carry and the manufacturers they deal with.

The vendors will have new products on display, plus customers can find out how to best use the products, look for solutions to problems they may be having within the office or see what’s new and helpful in organizing workspaces.

“A big thing these days in is ergonomic concerns within the office. So we’ll have a large display of potential tools that people can use for standing at their desk, so they can get more movement at the desk and not be sitting all day long,” said Don Green, owner and chief executive officer.

There will be one-day specials, plus a chance to win some prizes.

Every person will be given a key to try to unlock the treasure chest of prizes and get a chance to spin the wheel for a free item. Green said it’s definitely an honour to be celebrating such a milestone anniversary.

“We are one of the oldest businesses in Brandon and might even be a bit older than the city itself. E.L. Christie, back in 1881, decided to make his home in Brandon and started this business. It’s changed ownership three or four times and I’m steering the ship during this time in its life and things are going really well,” Green said.

Let’s boogie

It’s time to get down and celebrate the 45th anniversary of Shoppers Mall! To mark the occasion, they are hosting a Disco Dance Party on Wednesday, starting at 6:30 p.m.

There will be a historical photo display, prizes, refreshments, games and fantastic party music from the 1970s.

The first 45 guests will get a $45 Shoppers Mall gift card, plus there’s a grand prize draw for a $450 gift card.

There have been a lot of changes in the shopping centre since it first opened in 1971. Originally, there were just 25 stores and services, while today there are more than 80. Plus, they continue to expand and currently have close to 90,000 square feet of space under renovation. In the early part of 2017, they will welcome Sobeys Extra and GoodLife Fitness to the mall.
