Three young men who took part in break-ins to three Virden businesses in which $40,000 worth of goods were stolen have received conditional sentences.
Crown attorney Yaso Mathu said that the businesses were broken into between late May and late July. They were Diversified Oilfield Services, Sparwood Service Centre and Harwood Selfstorage.
More than $40,000 in tools, oilfield equipment, sports equipment and automotive items were stolen and stashed in a shed at the home of one of the offender’s unsuspecting grandmother. The plan was to sell the goods later.
The trio did $28,110 in damage at the self-storage business, where 47 locks were damaged and had to be repaired.
All three offenders — Dakota Judd, 18, Jayden Barre, 19, and Devon Krohn, 20 — received four-month conditional sentences.
Judd, last of the three to deal with his charges, was sentenced on Thursday. His sentence, for example, included a house arrest clause. He was also ordered to pay the damage to the self-storage business and may be entitled to seek a third of the money from the other co-accused.
