The Manitoba Junior Hockey League has cracked down on a trio of players.
The league suspended Dauphin Kings forward Matt Bartel five games after he took a blow to the head major penalty during Saturday’s game against the Winkler Flyers. It also banned Neepawa Natives forward Nolan Richards for four games for a blow to the head penalty in the Sept. 23 contest against Winkler.
Boissevain’s Brayden Billaney, who plays for the Virden Oil Capitals, has been suspended three games for a butt-ending incident that took place on Friday in a game against the Swan Valley Stampeders.
Meanwhile, the Oil Capitals sent 1999-born forward Marco Mazza to the Waywayseecappo Wolverines in exchange for future considerations.
The MJHL also named Braden Purtill of the Steinbach Pistons as it’s player of the week. The six-foot, 190-pounder had a four-goal effort on Sunday to give him six in three games. Nathan Halvorsen of the Selkirk Steelers and Chase Bradel of the Portage Terriers were runners-up.
