Brandon Police Service’s Tactical Response Unit made a major bust at a Brandon residence they had under surveillance for several months on Wednesday morning, resulting in seven people being arrested and a cache of drugs and weapons being seized.

At approximately 9:05 a.m., police executed a search warrant at a residence in the 800 block of Ninth Street.

A perimeter was set up and police surrounded the residence, where six people were ordered to exit.

Once inside police recovered four guns, including a sawed-off shotgun and a sawed-off .22 calibre rifle. A stash of knives and machetes were also found.

Additional searching turned up a Ziploc bag containing several ounces of what is believed to be methamphetamine, drug trafficking items and a stolen mountain bike.

“The police members involved in this investigation have been very diligent and worked extremely hard to bring resolution with respect to the charges that have been laid and the firearms and drugs that have been seized,” Sgt. Dave Andrew said. “Some very significant arrests have been made over the past few months relative to violent offences, firearm offences and drug trafficking stemming from the illegal activities at this residence and individuals who frequent it.”

As a result a 27-year-old Brandon man who lives at the residence was charged with 16 gun-related offences included possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, as well as possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime. The accused was also found to have an outstanding warrant for a number of offences including assault with a weapon and pointing a firearm related to an Oct. 13 incident when the man put a firearm in the mouth of another person and threatened them.

A 43-year-old Brandon woman who lives at the residence also faces numerous drug and weapon offences.

A 20-year-old Brandon woman, 23-year-old Brandon woman and 32-year-old Brandon man were arrested on outstanding warrants. A sixth suspect, a 31-year-old Brandon woman, was arrested as she is the suspect in a shoplifting incident that happened on Sept. 25.

Additionally, just prior to executing the search warrant, a 22-year-old Brandon man exited the residence and left in a taxi. Police stopped the vehicle and found the man in possession of 5.19 grams of cocaine. He was arrested and lodged at Brandon Correctional Centre.
