The union representing 2,200 workers at Safeway stores in Manitoba reached a tentative agreement with Sobeys West Inc. on Saturday.
In a news release, United Food and Commercial Workers Union (UFCW) Local 832 said details of the tentative agreement will be presented to members at meetings across the province on March 25.
The bargaining committee is recommending that its membership accept the tentative agreement reached with the company.
“This round of bargaining was unlike any other I’ve ever had in my years here at Local 832,” said Jeff Traeger, president of UFCW Local 832.
“I want to give thanks to our membership for giving us our 98 per cent strike mandate which helped to move the company off of many of their major concessions, and the bargaining committee who did an amazing job of holding the line for the 2,200 Safeway workers in Manitoba.”
The contract expired at midnight on Saturday, but will continue to be in effect until the ratification vote.
