A program designed to help seniors with dementia is opening sites at four locations across Westman this fall.
Sharing Dance Seniors, a partnership between Canada’s National Ballet School and Baycrest in Ontario, helps make dancing more accessible to seniors and people living with age-related illnesses such as dementia. No previous experience is required to participate and the classes will run for eight weeks starting on Sept. 12.
This will be the second time that the program has been offered in Westman.
It’s part of a research project between BU and the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba Westman region and is the basis of a larger study funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research.
The classes will be offered at the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba Westman Region in Brandon (204-729-8320), Prairie Oasis Senior Centre in Brandon (204-727-6641), Country Meadows Personal Care Home in Neepawa (204-476-2383) and the Minnedosa 50+ Activity Centre (204-867-5190).
