In 1967, the Town of Minnedosa established its beach pavilion as a centennial project, providing residents with a nice venue to enjoy the lake in the summer.

In 2020, the local government is looking to secure a $20,000 Manitoba 150 grant in the hopes of renovating the aging structure.

Town council member Frank Taylor told the Sun on Jan. 21 that the municipality’s Minnedosa 150 committee decided to seek out this funding for the province’s sesquicentennial anniversary, since the structure hadn’t been significantly upgraded for a number of years.

“That was something everybody thought, that the pavilion needed some work, because our lake is a big economic driver for us in the summertime,” he said.

While the town is still waiting to hear back about the application, Taylor said he would like to use this money to upgrade the building’s lighting and the glassed-in area that comprises its top level, although nothing is set in stone.

Since 1967, the Minnedosa beach pavilion has also been used to host weddings, roller-skating events, yoga classes, band concerts and even the town’s Skate the Lake pond hockey tournaments in the winter.
