The pool at the Brandon Community Sportsplex will remain closed until at least spring 2021 due to needed repairs, the City of Brandon announced on Thursday.
On March 13, the pool was initially closed because of the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The city had planned to reopen the pool this fall after the end of the outdoor pool season, but a third-party review conducted during the closure found problems with the facility’s water, air circulation and drainage systems.
According to the city’s release on the matter, the review was required due to mechanical issues stemming from the facility’s 2016 renovation.
In order to obtain an operating permit to reopen the pool, the city is working with a third-party engineering firm and Manitoba Health to plan and undertake the necessary repairs. Further repairs not affecting the pool’s operation and not related to getting an operating permit will be afterwards.
The city thanks swimmers for their patience and hopes to see them again in 2021.
