In these unprecedented times, the future may seem blurry or unfocused. If this is the case a trip to see the optometrists at FYidoctors may be overdue.

In 1980, under the name ‘Dr’s Bourassa and Williamson’, Dr. Don Williamson and his wife Dr. Barbara Bourassa opened their first Brandon office. After two more name changes in 1985 and 1994, the practice became FYidoctors in 2008 assuming the name of their parent company and continued to grow from there.

Establishing two central locations at the Brandon Shoppers Mall and the Town Centre the practice has steadfastly served the members of the Brandon community. Dr. Williamson remarked on the beneficial partnership that the business has had with the downtown community over the years as it has continued to grow and expand.

“The Town Centre folks have always been good to us … it’s a really nice community downtown and we’re glad to be a part of it,” he said.

The FYidoctors network is one of the most expansive eye care providers across Canada. With over 200 doctors across Canada, they can provide care for the various conditions and vision needs of their patients. The team of optometrists are a knowledgeable group of professionals who are constantly seeking out new methods of practicing.

As the owner’s family at home expanded so did their family at the practice. With the addition of Dr. Boguski in 1985, the list continued to grow including: Dr. Rust, Dr. Suski, Dr. Beaumont, Dr. Turner to the latest additions Dr. Paradine and Dr. Adriaasen. Dr. Williamson credits his late wife Barbara Bourassa who passed away in 2016, for her support in nurturing the development and growth of their practice.

“Without Barbara, this would not have been possible. She was a major support and without her we would not be where we are,” he stated.

The team has incorporated change and adaptability into their daily practice. This culture has helped implement the necessary changes and precautions required during the Covid-19 pandemic.

At the beginning of the lockdown, they were only accepting emergency cases. At that point, it was the busiest FYidoctors location in Canada because of the high demand for their services.

Williamson explained that along with the recommended precautions (COVID questions, plexi-glass barriers, sanitization throughout the store) they are taking extra care to keep customers safe as they resume regular operations.

“In the era of COVID, we are trying to keep our patients safe,” he said. “Especially for our ageing patients who make the effort to come out and see us.”

The range of products and services carried by FYidoctors makes it an ideal place for your vision care needs. The business provides a wide selection of state-of-the-art frames, contact lenses and safety glasses for its extensive line of eyewear. The eyes are the most delicate senses that require the most thorough care, especially as we age. FYidoctors provides OCT tests to look for signs of glaucoma in all patients over 50 in addition to the standard eye testing done in a regular visit.

Williamson explained that the practice does everything to meet a wide array of patient needs with the frame options and treatments they provide.

“We are always growing and changing. We try to use the most advanced technology available to meet customer’s needs. We carry everything from baby glasses, bifocals and single vision lenses. We also carry a line from England that is completely customizable for people who have difficulty finding the perfect fit for their glasses,” he said

The team at FYidoctors, are specially selected, and maintain the high standards the office has set for exceeding patient expectations. They are a group of hardworking, kind and empathetic individuals who do their best to provide premium service and care to everyone. Dr. Trent Turner, an optometrist at the practice, described his experience working with Williamson since the age of 16.

“Dr. Williamson has pretty much been my mentor,” he said. “Over the years, the level of care has been consistent, and we do the best we can with every patient.”

This interest in providing a high level of care to patients was described by Williamson, who explained their office motto and overall office culture in terms of patient care.

“We have a really simple way of doing things. Our motto is: Do what you would do for your most loved family member. Our staff are the kindest, nicest and the most caring group of people,” he said.

A team that puts their patient’s needs first with a high standard of care is what can be found at this practice.

FYidcotrs has a committed group of talented optometrists, and dedicated staff that is here to help with all your vision needs.
