As of 11:45 a.m. today, the province has expanded its vaccine eligibility program to include all adults 18 and over in the Northern Regional Health Authority and community-based eligibility to Seven Oaks West in Winnipeg, said Dr. Joss Reimer, medical lead for the Vaccine Implementation Task Force in a technical briefing for the province.
Approximately 35,000 adults over 18 will now have access to be vaccinated for COVID-19. Anyone who regularly works in the region, in any role, is now eligible the release said.
People in Churchill aged 18 and over were already eligible under the community prioritization index.
In the Seven Oaks West neighbourhood, people 18-and-and over who live in the neighbourhood as well as adults working in the following roles will be eligible for the vaccine as well. They are:
• Kindergarten to Grade 12 schools
• As a child-care provider
• In a food processing facility
• In a grocery store or convenience store
• At a gas station
• As a public health inspector or workplace safety and health officer
• Anywhere that serves food (restaurants or food banks).
“The vaccine is one way we can slow the spread of this virus and control the third wave of COVID-19,” Reimer said.
She said younger people are experiencing more severe outcomes from COVID-19 and it was important to adjust their eligibility criteria.
More than one-third of Manitobans have been immunized.
Appointments can be made for the vaccine by calling 1-844-626-8222 or by visiting protectmb.ca
