The city’s mayor is calling on Brandonites to get vaccinated for COVID-19 as soon as possible as a way out of the third wave of the pandemic.
Speaking in a Tuesday morning live-stream, Mayor Rick Chrest described the vaccine as a light at the end of the tunnel.
“Unlike all of the previous restrictions, this time we have a real live remedy underway: vaccinations,” he said while wearing a sticker he received after getting his own COVID-19 vaccine at the Keystone Centre super site.
“I have not been more encouraged and optimistic about this situation than I am right now purely based on these vaccinations. I would encourage and implore everyone, when your time comes up, when your opportunity comes up, to take that opportunity as soon as you can with whatever vaccine is made available to you.”
City of Brandon emergency co-ordinator Tobin Praznik also gave an update on how the current health restrictions affect the city’s operations.
Some city facilities are closed and the Water Treatment Plant has been closed to the public, Praznik said.
The Sportsplex is track is only open for individuals and groups of five people or fewer.
While Brandon City Hall is open, Praznik said all city building have adopted health measures such as sanitization and plexiglass partitions between staff and the public.
