The Brandon School Division registered at least one new COVID-19 case at Linden Lanes School over the weekend.
According to a Sunday evening news release from BSD, this exposure is impacting someone in a Grade 5/6 classroom who may have been infectious when they attended the school on Oct. 13 and Oct. 14.
This news release went on to state that “the infection was not believed to be acquired at school.”
BSD officials registered Linden Lanes’ first COVID case of the 2021-22 academic year back on Oct. 8, revealing that the exposure was also impacting a Grade 5/6 class.
Over the weekend, BSD notified the public that St. Augustine School has confirmed at least one more COVID case, this time in a Grade 2 class.
After announcing a flurry of new COVID cases since the Thanksgiving long weekend, a BSD representative told the Sun on Friday that the division had moved a Grade 6 class at St. Augustine to remote learning until Oct. 25 due to an ongoing COVID outbreak.
According to the province’s outbreak dashboard as of Monday evening, this outbreak is impacting six “non-staff” members at St. Augustine.
This marks the second time a Brandon-area school has experienced a public health-sanctioned COVID-19 outbreak since the beginning of the 2021-22 academic year.
Between late September and early October, Christian Heritage School racked up a total of 17 cases, which forced one Grade 3 class to transition to remote learning.
Elsewhere in the division, a total of 11 Brandon-area schools have registered COVID-19 cases since the beginning of the K-12 fall semester on Sept. 7.
These exposure sites include: Riverheights School, Vincent Massey High School, École O’Kelly, Betty Gibson School, École New Era, Crocus Plains Regional Secondary School, Christian Heritage School, Kirkcaldy Heights School, Linden Lanes School, St. Augustine School and King George School.
