In a news release, the deaths were listed as a man in his 40s and a man in his 80s. Both were from the Southern Health region.

The deaths were caused by variants.

This brings the total deaths due to COVID-19 in Manitoba since the start of the pandemic to 1,253.

Among the cases reported Thursday, 102 were not fully vaccinated. Those include: 15 new cases in the Interlake-Eastern health region (seven not fully vaccinated); 21 new cases in the Northern health region, (nine not fully vaccinated); 15 new cases in the Prairie Mountain Health region (11 not fully vaccinated); 70 new cases in the Southern Health-Santé Sud health region (59 not fully vaccinated); and 33 new cases in the Winnipeg health region (16 not fully vaccinated).

These cases put the test positivity rate at 4.9 per cent provincially and two per cent in Winnipeg.

Outbreaks have been declared at Winnipeg’s Health Sciences Centre, including unit GD2 and surgery; Portage District General Hospital’s medicine unit; and Fernwood Place in Steinbach.

These three facilities have been moved to the Critical (Red) level on the #RestartMB Pandemic Response System.

An outbreak has also been declared at Stony Mountain School in the Grade 5 and 6 class. The class has been moved to remote learning and the school moved to the Restricted (Orange) level.
