A man was arrested Monday afternoon after allegedly robbing a business with a hatchet and brandishing a sword.

At approximately 1:20 p.m., officers responded to a business on the 700 block of 10th Street after a report of a robbery.

Police say employees tried to stop a man from leaving with stolen items, but he showed a hatchet in his jacket when confronted. He was arrested in the area with the hatchet after giving police a fake name.

After arresting him, he was identified in a second incident from earlier in the day. Police say he was involved in an incident at a residence on the 2200 block of Rosser Avenue, where he was allegedly armed with a sword.

Police said he was also wanted on a warrant for assault causing bodily harm.

The 34-year-old man was charged with robbery, assault with a weapon and public mischief. He was scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
