The province reported three more deaths from COVID-19 on Wednesday.

In total, 1,429 people have died from COVID-19 in the province since the start of the pandemic.

The number of Manitobans in hospital due to the virus increased by 36 to 454 that day, according to the province’s COVID-19 dashboard.

Among the hospitalizations, 419 people have active cases. There are 46 people in the intensive care unit with COVID-19, all but one with active infections.

The provincial five-day test positivity rate dropped to 47.2 per cent on Wednesday, compared to 48.1 per cent on Tuesday. The province said it completed 3,538 laboratory tests on Tuesday.

The province also reported 1,478 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total to 105,406, which includes 35,048 active cases and 68,929 recoveries.

The provincial government also listed COVID restriction enforcement efforts in a news release.

Thirty-one warnings and 33 tickets were issued for the week of Jan. 3-9, including one $1,296 ticket to an individual and 30 $298 tickets to individuals for failure to wear a mask in an indoor public place.

There was also one $8,550 ticket to an individual for the Federal Quarantine Act, and one information laid (seven public health charges) to a business for repeated offences where the courts will determine the fine amount (maximum penalty $1 million).
