50 YEARS AGO — Roy McKenzie’s foursome from Kenton won the Merchants event at the Oak River bonspiel. McKenzie defeated L. Ramsey of Brandon.

40 YEARS AGO — Wanda Slomiany and Leeanne Cale scored 12 points each to lead the Earl Haig Chimos to a 47-35 victory over the Vincent Massey Vikings as the Brandon Junior High Schools postseason basketball tournament began. Cindy Gabor led the Vikings with 10 points.

30 YEARS AGO — Jeremy Robinson, Shane Johnson and Grady Manson scored as the Brandon Wheat Kings beat the Parkland Rangers 3-1 in the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League.

20 YEARS AGO — Kelly Krawchuk scored four goals and Trevor Kozak added a pair as the Souris Elks blasted the Melita Bisons 12-4 in a SouthWest Hockey League game last night. The Elks also got goals from Kevin Stinson, Ashley Robertson, Nathan Kowalchuk, Tyson Ramsey, David May and Mark Ryckman.
