The City of Brandon has issued a thin ice caution for the Assiniboine River and its surroundings.

Last week, the province announced that the outflow of water from the Shellmouth Reservoir was being increased in preparation for spring runoff.

This will lead to the water level on the Assiniboine River in the Brandon area increasing by one or two feet in the coming days.

Due to various factors, including weather and the water level increase, there have been confirmed reports of thin ice on the river.

Pet owners, recreational vehicle users who operate on and around the river and parents of young children should be especially careful right now.
