The cause of a fire that levelled an apartment building in the city’s west end has been ruled “undetermined” after a two-week investigation.
The fire tore through an apartment building under construction by Keller Developments on Feb. 17. The fire at 4110 Victoria Ave. started at approximately 8:15 a.m. and by the afternoon, the building had burned almost entirely to the ground.
In a Facebook post, Keller Developments said the cause has been deemed “undetermined.”
“We are ready to start demolition and clean up in the next couple days. Everyone can expect to see movement on site as we start the rebuild process,” the developer’s statement on March 3 reads.
The Sun reached out to Keller Developments on Friday for more details but did not hear back by press time.
Brandon Fire and Emergency Services deputy chief Terry Parlow confirmed the cause of the fire is “undetermined” at this time.
He previously told the Sun there were many “complexities” with the investigation.
The building, which would have been called “The Westgate,” would have been one of the company’s biggest projects to date.
The investigation into the fire was completed by BFES and was not investigated by the Manitoba Office of the Fire Commissioner.
There were several employees of the developers and sub-contractors on site at the time of the fire, but they were all safely evacuated and no one was hurt. The fire also did not spread to any adjacent buildings.
