Canada’s largest rural-focused broadband internet provider, Xplornet, recently announced it has completed an acquisition of Full Throttle Networks, a high-speed internet business in Winnipeg.
Full Throttle Networks has operated a fixed wireless network, providing broadband access service to more than 1,600 residential and commercial customers in Winnipeg and surrounding communities.
Acquired customers are anticipated to benefit from Xplornet’s fibre-to-the-premise and 5G fixed wireless rollout plans in the province of Manitoba, a release from the company said.
The company is currently expanding its fibre network across Manitoba and is upgrading towers with 5G equipment to deliver faster speeds to more than 350 rural and 30 First Nation communities.
The report details customers of Full Throttle located in the network upgrade areas will be able to take advantage of download speeds up to 100 megabytes per second and upload speeds up to 10 megabytes per second, as well as speeds of one gigabyte per second in fibre areas, once they complete the project.
“The acquisition of Full Throttle Networks supports our ambitious plan to offer more Manitobans access to the latest network technologies and fastest speeds,” said Bill Macdonald, executive vice-president of business development for Xplornet Communications, in the release.
“We’re eager to bring the vast benefits of high-speed internet connectivity to even more Manitobans so they can connect to what matters.”
Dane Davis, president of Full Throttle Networks, said the company is confident it has brought its network to the best home possible, to bring rural internet services to the next level.
“We would like to extend a warm thank you to our amazing customers for believing in us, encouraging us, and joining us along our journey,” Davis said.
“We hope they are just as excited as we are for this new path of evolution we are embarking on.”
Xplornet has deep roots within the province, having its first customers start using its service in 2004. Since 2017, the company has had offices in Brandon, where its national office is located for the Xplornet Enterprise Solutions division.
