Hey there, time traveller!

Children in Brandon will soon have new play structures to climb on, run through and vault around.
Two play structures in city parks are scheduled for replacement this summer and another will be relocated.
Structures at Westview Park and the Frederick Street Playground will be replaced, while the one at Queen Elizabeth Park will be moved to the South End Community Park, according to City of Brandon request for proposal documents released Tuesday.

The structures are being replaced for safety reason and to install new play equipment, said Brandon’s manager of parks operations, Bryce Wilson. The city’s green space master plan sets out a cycle for the structures to be replaced.
The exact details of the play structures won’t be known until the request for proposal closes, but Wilson said the intention is to update them and bring in new features around the parks.
The playground at Queen Elizabeth Park won’t be replaced, he said, as the expansion of the Water Treatment Park will take over the space.
“We’re just getting ahead of the 8-ball and moving that play structure out of there before we have to dismantle it,” he said. It includes slides, a climbing wall and a seesaw.
“We just thought it would be a great idea to put it to the South End Playground. The play structure there is a little beat up … there’s a lot of unsafe pieces on that old structure.”
The new play structures are for kids aged between two and 12, according to the request for proposal.
The budget for Westview Park is $100,000 and the budget for Frederick Street Playground is $75,000.
Wooden structures, tubes, play panels with small moving parts, cable rides, tire swings, talk tubes, telescopes and barrel rollers are “unacceptable,” the document reads.
Equipment for balancing, sliding, climbing and creative play is requested.
“We know there’s lots of kids in the area and a lot of play features down at Queen Elizabeth that will be moved up [to the South End Community Park] … just to beef up the area, a little more play areas for the kids,” he said.
The tender is scheduled to close on May 18.
