Upcoming COVID-19 vaccine clinics
Prairie Mountain Health is running COVID-19 vaccine clinics in Brandon and Carberry for ages five and up for first, second and third doses if eligible.
Brandon Friendship Centre (205 College Ave.) on May 10 from 2 to 5 p.m.
Brandon Shoppers Mall near Smitty’s (1570 18th St.) on May 13 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
These clinics will have walk-in and booked appointments.

Carberry at the seniors drop-in centre (130 Main St.) on May 9 from 4 to 6 p.m.

Municipalities receive asset management funding
Seven Manitoba municipalities, including several in Westman, have received funding to improve their asset management practices from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities and the federal government.
According to a release, a total of $272,228 is going out to the following communities:
• Town of Melita — $31,280 to develop an asset management plan.
• City of Winkler — $50,000 for asset management planning and education.
• RM of Cornwallis — $34,560 to develop an asset management plan.
• Riverdale Municipality — $40,000 for a policies and systems project.
• RM of Riding Mountain West — $40,000 for an asset management framework and system project.
• RM of Rosedale — $41,148 for an asset management data collection project.
The goal of these projects is to help these communities make decisions on key infrastructure based on data.
“Our Government recognizes the importance of having comprehensive training and tools to plan, maintain, and build infrastructure,” federal Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, Infrastructure and Communities Dominic LeBlanc said in the release.
“Through the Municipal Asset Management Program, we are helping rural municipalities in Manitoba acquire the skills they need to sustainably manage their assets and realize savings over the long term.”
City looking for food trucks
The City of Brandon is hosting a party next month and food trucks are invited.
On Friday, the city sent out an open call for local food trucks and restaurants to submit applications to serve food and beverages for an event celebrating the new Brandon city plan at Princess Park from noon to 3 p.m. on June 11.
Vendors interested in taking part must send in their applications by Friday, May 20. Proof of insurance and a copy of a 2022 business license must be submitted with any application.

More information on the city plan celebration will be released soon, the city says.
City fixing First Street water main
Motorists should avoid the southbound lanes of First Street from Queens Avenue to Brock Avenue on Saturday as city crews work to repair a broken water main.
According to a release sent out by the city on Friday, those lanes will be closed from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
There will be a detour on Queens Avenue, with motorists advised to avoid the area if possible.
Brockie Donovan hosting Mother’s Day rose giveaway
Brandon funeral home Brockie Donovan will be hosting a rose giveaway for those who have lost their mothers, wives or children on Sunday.
From noon to 3 p.m., locals can pick up a complimentary rose at Rosewood Memorial Gardens, located approximately three kilometres west of town on Highway 1A.
People are then welcome to place their rose at their loved one’s place of rest.
