Two dead following collision

Two people were killed in a two-vehicle collision near Glenboro on Monday.

Carberry RCMP responded to the collision at the intersection of Highway 5 and Highway 2, in the RM of Glenboro-South Cypress Monday evening.

The initial investigation determined that a vehicle travelling south on Highway 5, entered the intersection, and collided with a semi-truck and trailer going east on Highway 2.

The driver of the vehicle, a 91-year-old male, and the passenger, an 86-year-old female, both from the RM of Glenboro-South Cypress, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the semi, a 58-year-old male from Souris, had minor injuries.

Carberry RCMP along with a forensic collision reconstructionist continue to investigate.

Drugs, weapons seized in Dauphin

A traffic stop conducted by the Manitoba RCMP Friday in Dauphin resulted in the seizure of drugs and cash.

Around 3:20 p.m. officers conducted a traffic stop as part of an ongoing investigation on First Street SE in Dauphin. The search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of cocaine, illicit prescription drugs, and cash. Further investigation by the officers led to the search of a residence on Fourth Avenue SE in Dauphin.

Officers seized 176 grams of cocaine, illicit cannabis, illicit prescription drugs, cash, a loaded rifle, unstamped cigarettes and multiple drug trafficking paraphernalia items.

Katie Ann Schabler, 42, from Dauphin, was arrested and remanded into custody. Schabler was charged with three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of illicit cannabis, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, unsafe storage of firearms, possession of a firearm when knowing possession is unauthorized, failing to comply and charges under the Tax Administration and Miscellaneous Taxes Act.

The West District Crime Reduction Enforcement Support Team continues to investigate.

Theft under $5,000

A suspect in a theft tried to flee the scene on a bike Monday afternoon, according to Brandon police.

Police responded to a reported theft from a business on the 900 block of 18th Street. Police arrested a 24-year-old man who attempted to escape the area using a bicycle. An employee retrieved the bicycle.

He was later released to appear in court on Sept. 8 on a charge of theft under $5,000.

Video used to ID suspect

A woman has been arrested for allegedly stealing merchandise from a Brandon business several weeks ago.

Brandon police initially responded to a report of theft of merchandise from a business on the 900 block of Victoria Avenue on May 25. Police used security footage to identify the 34-year-old suspect.

The woman was located and arrested by police on Monday. She was released to appear in court on Aug. 29 on a charge of theft under $5,000.

Breach of peace

Brandon police tracked down a man in possession of vegetables and a saw Monday evening.

Police received a call around 7 p.m. regarding a man who appeared to be going through vehicles and yards in the 600 block of 13th Street.

A 24-year-old man was located by BPS in possession of a circular saw and vegetables. Police believe the items had been stolen, but could not confirm who they belonged to at the time.

The man was lodged at Brandon Police Service and released Tuesday morning.
