50 YEARS AGO — Mark Fisher hit two homers and drove in seven runs to lead the Riverside Canucks to an 11-7 win over the host Souris Cardinals in Manitoba Senior Baseball League action.

30 YEARS AGO — Kevin Maxwell stepped down from his role as the head coach of the Brandon Wheat Kings to become the director of professional scouting for the NHL’s Hartford Whalers. The Wheat Kings filled the vacancy the following day by hiring Seattle Thunderbirds assistant coach Bob Lowes.
