The Brandon Marlins finishing fourth at Baseball Manitoba’s 18-and-under Tier 1 provincial championship in Winnipeg on Sunday, narrowly missing a spot at the upcoming western Canadian playdowns.
The Marlins fell 12-9 to North Winnipeg in the third-place game on Sunday afternoon, hours after beating the Bonivital Black Sox 7-6 to post a 3-2 record in their last game of the round-robin.
Earlier in the round-robin, Brandon beat the North Winnipeg Pirates 10-5 and lost 6-2 to the Winnipeg South Wolves on Friday: They beat South Central 12-2 and fell by the same score to Carillon on Saturday.
In the final, Carillon beat South Winnipeg 4-2 to win the title.
The national playdowns are in Fort McMurray, with two Manitoba squads attending the western championships in Regina. Both tournaments are from Aug. 18 to 21.
