Efficiency Manitoba introduces solar incentive

Manitobans interested in installing solar panels at their homes or businesses can now get financial help from Efficiency Manitoba.

That organization announced Thursday that its new solar rebate program offers Manitobans a rebate of 50 cents per watt for solar photovoltaic systems up to 10 kilowatts for home systems and 50 kilowatts for business systems.

The maximum rebate for home systems is $5,000 and $25,000 for business systems.

To qualify, a home or business must be connected to the Manitoba Hydro grid and must have their solar system installed by a registered Efficiency Manitoba supplier. Businesses need approval before starting their solar project.

“By offering rebates on solar PV systems, we’re helping to make this technology more accessible and affordable to Manitobans and contribute to our mandated responsibility to reduce energy consumption from the grid,” Efficiency Manitoba CEO Colleen Kuruluk stated in a release.

Those interested in installing a solar system can also receive incentives under the federal Canada Greener Homes Grant.

Brandon releases city plan consultation findings

Brandon residents are looking for a city that is easier to navigate on foot or bicycle and is less reliant on cars.

Those were just a couple of the findings that Brandon city staff discovered while consulting residents for the new city plan earlier this week, according to a release sent out Thursday afternoon.

According to the release, those consultations included more than 800 responses to an online survey, more than 2,800 web page views and more than 150 residents attending consultation sessions.

Residents said they want more mixed-use housing and more mixed-use neighbourhoods, more bike lanes and paths, a city less reliant on cars with more active transportation options, infill development to be a priority and updated building codes, and to improve the perception of safety downtown.

Now that the first phase of consultations is complete, the city is planning Phase 2 for this fall.

Findings from Phase 1 can be found online at brandon.ca/cityplan, by emailing cityplan@brandon.ca or by calling 204-729-2110.

The city encourages residents to review the findings and fill out an online survey at bit.ly/3c8CVKv, by emailing cityplan@brandon.ca or calling 204-729-2110.
