The Westman Magic’s dreams of an under-17 national championship ended Sunday morning when they fell 2-0 to the Fraser Valley Fusion in Montreal.
The Magic, who finished sixth, fell despite outhitting the Fusion 5-4.
Naomi McKay, who was called up after attending nationals with the U15 Magic, took the loss, allowing four hits in six innings and one earned run as Westman made a pair of errors.
Cassidy Dundas and Brooklyn Franklin both had a pair of hits.
The Magic finished 4-4 overall and were the only one of the three Manitoba squads to advance to the playoffs. The Winnipeg Lightning went 3-3 and Central Energy finished 2-4 in the 24-team event.
In the Magic’s other games, they lost 3-2 to the Aurora Diggers (Ontario) and beat the Lumsden Cubs (Saskatchewan) 5-4 on Wednesday, beat the Sherwood Park Storm (Alberta) 5-4 on Thursday, lost 7-0 to the Cloverfield Fury (B.C.) and 6-3 to the Fraser Valley Fusion (B.C.) on Friday, and beat the Halton Hawks (Ontario) 10-3 and the New Brunswick Selects 5-3 on Saturday.
