Arrest made in wallet theft

A 60-year-old man was arrested Thursday in connection with a wallet stolen earlier this year.

On May 28, a wallet was reported stolen by a customer at a business on the 1500 block of 18th Street after they had made some purchases.

A debit card in the wallet was used to make several fraudulent purchases, and police located a suspect through security footage.

Finally on Thursday, police located and arrested the suspect. He was charged with fraud under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime and is due to appear in court Oct. 20.

Stolen vehicle discovered

Police responding to a report of an abandoned vehicle on the 1200 block of Sixth Street discovered that it had been reported stolen earlier in the month.

The 2007 grey Buick Lucerne was taken from the 1200 block of 22nd Street overnight on Aug. 2.

Anyone with information relating to the theft is asked to call 204-729-2345.

Police dog used in suspect search

Brandon Police Service officers pursued a suspect with a police dog after he abandoned the car he was driving Thursday afternoon.

Around 4 p.m., police saw a 35-year-old man driving a vehicle near the intersection of 34th Street and Willowdale Crescent who they knew was prohibited from driving.

Once the man saw officers, he abandoned the vehicle and ran away on foot. Police set up a perimeter and searched for the man with the police dog, eventually locating him near the intersection of Plateau Drive and Marsh Crescent.

The vehicle he was driving was seized and he was charged with operation of a conveyance while prohibited. The suspect is due to appear in court Oct. 20.
