Hey there, time traveller!

On Thursday evening, Sioux Valley Dakota Nation held its first Christmas dinner in the community in three years. The annual event was cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and related restrictions.
Community members enjoyed a full course Christmas meal served by the chief and council as well as community directors.
The evening also included entertainment and a visit from Santa Claus. Families braved the bitter cold to feast on turkey, ham, trimmings and desserts, and to socialize.
Sioux Valley also held Christmas dinners in Winnipeg and Brandon earlier this month for members of the First Nation in those communities and will hold a final dinner today for community elders.
According to Jocelyn Ross, events planner for the community, approximately 200 community members attended Thursday evening’s dinner, 240 in Brandon, and another 150 in Winnipeg. Sioux Valley is also planning a powwow for New Year’s Day.
