Man accused of attacking child

The RCMP is currently looking for a young adult male who allegedly assaulted a 10-year-old boy in Oak Lake on June 16.

The Virden RCMP received a report of this attack around 6:25 p.m. and responded to the scene near Joe Dandy’s Drive-In and the old Oak Wood School.

Police later learned that the suspect ran at and forcefully pushed the child off of his bike before dragging him onto the road by his pants.

The suspect then began yelling at the 10-year-old before fleeing the area on foot.

At this time, police believe that the suspect was trying to steal money from the victim.

While the 10-year-old was not physically injured during this attack, the RCMP is still trying to track down his assailant.

He is described as Indigenous in appearance, approximately six feet tall, wearing a blue sweater, black pants and having a beard. The suspect is also believed to be in his early 20s.

Anyone with information on the suspect’s whereabouts, or who witnessed this June 16 assault, is being asked to contact the Virden RCMP detachment at 204-748-2135.

Anonymous tips can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-8477 or visiting manitobacrimestoppers.com.

Stolen ID, stolen vehicle

A 39-year-old man was allegedly caught with a stolen vehicle in his possession Thursday after he reportedly tried to check into the Canad Inns using stolen identification.

Brandon police received a report about the suspect that morning, with a hotel employee having already conducted a background check on the individual named on the identification.

A search of the individual’s social media profile revealed that their Subaru had recently been stolen, with the employee noting that that same vehicle was currently parked in the establishment’s parking lot.

Police arrived at the scene and verified that the vehicle in question had been reported stolen to the Winnipeg Police Service two and a half hours earlier.

As a result, officers placed the 39-year-old man under arrest for attempting to check into the hotel under arrest for possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

He was later released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 24.

Teens face robbery charge

Brandon police arrested two 17-year-old girls Thursday evening for attempting to steal merchandise from the Keystone Beer Company and assaulting a staff member in the process.

Police on patrol in the 1800 block of Brandon Avenue stopped at this beer vendor after witnessing this physical altercation take place.

While one of the suspects fled the scene on foot, eyewitnesses directed police to a nearby dumpster that the second 17-year-old had jumped into to try to evade the authorities.

Further investigation revealed the two teenagers knocked the Keystone employee to the ground while attempting to escape with the stolen beer, although the staff member didn’t sustain any injuries.

After being arrested by police, one of the 17-year-olds was released to a legal guardian with conditions and is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 1.

The second suspect remained in custody as of Friday morning, according to a news release from the Brandon Police Service.

Both teens are being charged with committing robbery with violence.

Wanted by police

Police are currently on the lookout for 29-year-old Jessie Louis Missyabit of Winnipeg, who is wanted for his connection to a drug and weapon seizure that took place in Dauphin Tuesday.

At around 5:50 p.m., members of the Dauphin RCMP conducted a traffic stop on the city’s Main Street, causing Missyabit to exit the vehicle and flee the scene.

A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of a loaded .22-calibre pistol (later determined to be stolen), small quantities of cocaine and methamphetamine, open liquor, brass knuckles and cash.

Police also determined that the vehicle itself was stolen.

The vehicle’s 17-year-old male driver and the 15-year-old female passenger, both from Dauphin, told police that they did not know Missyabit, but were arrested nevertheless and are facing several drug, property and firearm-related offences.

As of Friday afternoon, authorities are still looking for Missyabit, who is wanted on a variety of charges, including two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, two counts of possession of property obtained by crime, possession of a prohibited weapon, resisting arrest and several firearm-related offences.

Missyabit is also wanted by the Winnipeg Police Service for being unlawfully at large and by the Correctional Service of Canada for violating the conditions of his parole.

If anyone has information regarding Missyabit’s whereabouts they are asked to contact their local police agency, call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477 or submit a secure tip online at manitobacrimestoppers.com.

Dauphin woman missing

The RCMP is asking for the public’s help in locating 40-year-old Monica Chartrand of Dauphin, who was reported missing Wednesday and still hadn’t been located as of Friday afternoon.

Chartrand was last seen by a member of her family on the evening of June 14.

Her family believes that Chartrand had intentions of travelling to either Winnipeg, Saskatoon or Saddle Lake Cree Nation in Alberta, although her method of travel is unknown.

She is described as five-foot-five and 165 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. She has several Indigenous tattoos located on her neck, forearms and right hand.

Anyone with information on Chartrand’s whereabouts is asked to contact Dauphin RCMP at 204-622-5020, call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477, or submit a secure tip online at manitobacrimestoppers.com.
