Brandon Wheat Kings forward Dawson Pasternak is a world champion again.

The 20-year-old forward from Winnipeg won gold with Team Canada at the under-20 world ball hockey championships in Liberic, Czechia with a 10-3 victory over Slovakia.

Pasternak had three goals and three assists, while fellow Western Hockey League player Connor Roulette added a hat trick and an assist as Canada built an insurmountable 8-0 lead. Pasternak was joined on the team by two former Brandon draft picks, defenceman Tyler Teasdale (125th overall in 2018) and forward Owen Weihs (95th overall in 2018), plus goaltender Cole Plowman, who Brandon had on their list for a couple of years.

Wenatchee Wild forward Evan Friesen was also on the team.

Pasternak had four assists in Canada’s first five games as they beat the United States 4-3 in a shootout, Slovakia 4-3, Czechia 7-5 and Switzerland 12-1 in the round-robin, and then the United States 7-4 in the semifinal. His 10 points tied him for sixth in tournament scoring.
