Dozens of collectible cars as far as the eye could see lined Rosser Avenue in downtown Brandon for Cruise Night, the monthly get together for car owners, and those who appreciate the classics.
On the first Thursday of every month, seven blocks belong to Brandon and Area Car Enthusiasts (BACE), who start claiming their spot about 5 p.m., which is an hour before “show and shine time,” said Dave Burba, a BACE member and president of the Road Rebels Car Club.
“We own the streets from 6 to 9 p.m., from Sixth to 13th (streets) all along Rosser,” Burba said.

“Cruise Night is put on by a group of like-minded car people who just want to do something for the car enthusiasts in Brandon. There’s no membership, and we don’t discriminate. Anybody can bring whatever vehicle they want. Bring it down and show it off,” Burba said.
It’s hard to judge who had a better time, Burba added, the owners or the spectators, who are able to get up close and personal with vintage, antique and classic cars, trucks and motorcycles, and ask all the questions they want about maintenance and upgrades.
The event happens rain or shine, but is better when the weather is perfect, Burba said.
But for Russell’s Gerry Simpson, who said he has been to every show and shine around Westman this year, weather has never been an issue.
“I really like the vibe at Brandon’s Cruise Night. It’s really chill and, for a gearhead like me, all the car collectors are so easy to talk to. I’ve even taken some of their advice and put it into action in my garage,” Simpson said.
Brandonites and Westman residents took in the Brandon and Area Car Enthusiasts (BACE) Cruise Night in Downtown Brandon on a sunny Thursday evening, checking out all the vehicles on display.
Each event is also a fundraiser for Brandon’s Elspeth Reid Family Resource Centre, which provides parenting education, and other supports to help strengthen the bond between a parent and their child.
Proceeds from the burgers and drinks they sell go directly to the programs provided by the non-profit.
There will be two more Cruise Nights in Brandon this summer, on Aug. 3 and Sept. 7.
This Sunday, BACE is hosting its Collector Car Appreciation Day at the Riverbank Discovery Centre from noon to 4 p.m, which is open to the public.
