Three people were taken to hospital Monday afternoon following a serious multi-vehicle collision at the junction of the Trans-Canada Highway and Highway 5 just north of Carberry — the same accident site that claimed the lives of 17 seniors last month.
The Manitoba RCMP received a report of this latest crash around 4:45 p.m. Monday.
After officers arrived at the scene, an initial investigation revealed that a pickup truck was travelling southbound on Highway 5 when it entered the intersection at the Trans-Canada and collided with an eastbound SUV.

The resulting collision caused the two vehicles to push across the highway and into a third vehicle, which was sitting at a stop sign.
Two of the people involved in this crash were taken to a local hospital, while a third was taken to a facility in Winnipeg.
No fatalities were reported as of 8:30 p.m. Monday, although the RCMP said that at least some of the drivers sustained serious injuries.
When the Sun arrived at the accident site around 8 p.m., all three vehicles were still there.
A black truck was flipped upside down while the front portion of a red SUV was completely crushed. A blue SUV was in the process of being towed away by the authorities.
A memorial to the 17 seniors who lost their lives at this intersection on June 15 was visible only a couple hundred metres away.

“We very much appreciate that this may be extraordinarily upsetting for some people considering the recent mass casualty collision at the same intersection,” Insp. Lee Fortin of RCMP West District said in a Monday evening news release.
“This is very early in this investigation and we need to do our work to confirm information and determine what happened. We will provide updates as soon as we are able. We urge anyone who is triggered by this incident to seek appropriate supports.”
