REGINA – Police say an item made to look like an explosive device was found near a school in northeastern Regina.

Someone using a play structure near St. Michael School called police Wednesday morning about a suspicious item on the ground under a bench.

Police say in a news release that officers found the item of concern and set up a perimeter around the area.

The police’s explosives disposal team was called in and the item was safely disposed of later in the afternoon.

Police say that while the item was made to look like an explosive, it was not, and it appears to be an act of public mischief.

They say no suspects have been identified yet.
