Old memories were celebrated and new ones made earlier this summer when the Grade 1 class of 1954-55 from Waskada School, originally located 142 kilometres southwest of Brandon, celebrated their 75th reunion in Brandon at the Canad Inns Destination Centre.
Of the 20 original students in the class, 11 were present, with two having recently died. The event was made even more special when that class’s teacher, Margaret McGregor, made an appearance.
The Grade 1 class reunions started in 1988, when the Waskada School held a reunion to mark the 40th anniversary of the Grade 1 class. After that initial event, it was decided that a reunion would be held every 10 years. After the 60th reunion, it was decided to hold them every five years.
