• 10:15 to 11 a.m. — Story and Song Circle with Michelle at the Brandon Public Library. Preschoolers can join Michelle for stories, songs and crafts. The presence of a caregiver or parent is required. No registration necessary.

• 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. — Brandon Farmers’ Market takes place inside The Town Centre (800 Rosser Ave., Brandon). Local fresh produce, baking, jams and jellies, pickling, yarn, bison, beef, beeswax candles, crafts and more. This event runs year-round.
• 9 a.m. — The 2023 Morden Corn and Apple Festival, Manitoba’s largest street festival, returns this weekend. Come out for some free hot buttered corn on the cob, apple juice, children’s activities and more than 200 vendors selling everything from delicious food to gorgeous handmade goods. Entertainment headliners include Kendra Kay, Northern Reflections, Epic Eagles and Vince Anderson and The Ace Band. More information can be found on the festival website, cornandapple.com. • 1 to 11 p.m. — Dark Sky Day at the Spruce Woods Visitor Centre. Join park interpreters and the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada to discover the night sky at Spruce Woods. • 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. — A fundraising lemonade stand for cancer treatment will be situated in front of the Westoba Credit Union in Rivers today. Come enjoy some thirst-quenching lemonade as well as baked goods. Three young girls will be assisted by Marguerite Lapka Woytowich who is undergoing cancer treatment.
• 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. — Come and find some radishing veggies at the Global Market. Shop an amazing selection of homegrown produce, fresh baked goods and handmade crafts. Located in the Re-Fit Store building at 23 12th Street.
• 10 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. —“Coffee Concert/Serious Fun” at 10:30 a.m. followed by the “Piano Lights Concert” at 7:30 p.m. at the Erickson Lutheran Church. These events are part of the Clear Lake Chamber Music Festival. The festival this year joins the global celebrations honouring the double anniversary of the legendary composer and pianist Sergei Vasilyevich Rachwmaninoff (1873-1943), commemorating 150 years since his birth and 80 years since his passing. • 6 to 11 p.m. — Join the Criddle/Vane family members, along with Manitoba Parks, Friends of Spruce Woods, and the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada to celebrate the legacy of the Criddles and Vanes located off PR 340 between Shilo and Wawanesa, three kilometres east on Aweme Road. From 6 to 8 p.m. enjoy a BBQ and s’mores over a fire, then take a horse-drawn wagon to explore the homestead and learn the family’s history. The Criddles and Vane families are Manitoba pioneers well-known for their contributions in the fields of science, art, sport and culture, as well as their somewhat eccentric lifestyle. Candle-lit cemetery tours from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. Then join the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada for some stargazing through provided telescopes. Bring lawn chairs and warm clothing. MONDAY (Aug 28)
• 6:45 p.m. — Regular evening lawn bowling begins another season at Rideau Park (345 Park St.) Monday to Thursday. Please come out to enjoy Rideau Park, socialize and learn a new sport. Equipment is provided and your first game is free, and $5 thereafter. Memberships can be purchased for the entire season.
• 7 p.m. — Lawn bowling at Stanley Park (15th Street and Princess Avenue) takes place every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday until September. Bowls and instructions provided. Try it for free. Join us for fun and light exercise.
TUESDAY (Aug 29)
• 6:30 p.m. — Music in the Park takes place at Princess Park every Tuesday in August. This week features Along For The Ride. This event is free to attend. All are welcome.
WEDNESDAY (Aug 30)
• 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. — LEGO Bricks and Bits Club at the Lakeland Regional Library (318 Williams Ave., Killarney). LEGO provided. No registration required. Build your own adventure, complete challenges and LEGO builds displayed weekly. Second session from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.

MUSEUMS AND GALLERIES
• Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum (Brandon Municipal Airport, Highway 10, 1.6 kilometres north of Brandon) — Canada’s only air museum solely dedicated to the preservation of those who trained and fought for the British Commonwealth during the Second World War. Open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. seven days a week. Visitors will be invited to travel back to the 1940s while touring a Second World War-vintage hangar serving as a display area for aircraft, vehicles and hundreds of artifacts from that era. The 18,039 RCAF members who lost their lives during the war are honoured on the museum’s RCAF Second World War Memorial Wall. The museum is proud to be one of the seven Manitoba Signature Museums, a Manitoba Star Attraction and a National Historic Site. On display until Sept. 30: “Ace Flight Academy,” a virtual reality exhibit. Come fly a Second World War biplane included in your admission.
• Daly House Museum (122 18th St., Brandon) — Built in 1882, the Daly House was the original home of Brandon’s first mayor, Thomas Mayne Daly. Artifacts include a collection of late 19th-century and early 20th-century furnishings, First World War memorabilia, toys, dolls and women’s wear. Museum hours: Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. (September to June); Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m. (July and August). Admission: $6 for adults, $5 for seniors and youth (six to 18 years old), family (up to two adults and three children) $12, and children under five are admitted free. • Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba (Unit 2, 710 Rosser Ave., Brandon) — “A contemporary art gallery, school and shop that celebrates artistic excellence and diversity within our region and beyond.” The AGSM is Manitoba’s oldest centre for visual art and one of Canada’s first. Summer hours: 4 to 9 p.m. Monday; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday; 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday. Phone 204-727-1036 or email: info@agsm.ca. • Virden Pioneer Home Museum (390 King St. West, Virden) — The Frame House was built in 1888 by James F. Frame, a hardware merchant and prominent citizen in the community. Entering the museum is like stepping back in time to the 1880s, as you’ll notice the Victorian stylings throughout the home, which is complete with a spacious coach house. The museum houses a collection of more than 11,000 items. Open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Saturday. Guided tours and admission prices: $5 for adults; $2 for school-aged children and free for children under five. Groups of eight or more receive a 50 per cent discount on admissions.
• Killarney’s Heritage Home for the Arts (44 Water Ave., Killarney) — The Killarney Turtle Mountain Arts Council’s gallery is in the Heritage Home for the Arts. Gallery hours are Tuesday to Saturday, 1 to 4 p.m. The gallery is closed all statutory holidays. Special tours can be arranged by calling the arts administrator at 204-554-0023.
• Brandon General Museum and Archives (19 Ninth St., Unit 101) — Attractions include the Brandon History Hall, Manitoba Telephone History, the BJ Hales Natural History Collection and rotating exhibits celebrating Brandon’s roots. • 26th Field Regiment RCA/XII Manitoba Dragoons Museum (within the Brandon Armoury, 1116 Victoria Ave.) — The museum is open Tuesdays, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and closed for lunch. Also open by appointment.
• ArtsForward (293 Mountain Ave., Neepawa) — ArtsForward is the central arts venue in Neepawa, in visual, literary, performing and material arts. Hours are: 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Mondays to Thursdays; 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays; closed on weekends.
UPCOMING EVENTS
• Sept. 5 — The Royal Canadian Legion, Brandon Branch No. 3 is restarting their crib night on Wednesday nights. Sign up tonight at 6:30 p.m. with a start at 7 p.m. Cost is $5 per person. Prizes to be given.
• Sept. 7 — Cruise Night on Brandon’s Rosser Avenue between 6th and 13th Street from 6 to 9 p.m. Custom, vintage, and antique cars, trucks, and motorcycles are the norm at Cruise Night events.
• Sept. 7-9 — The Rotary fall book sale will take place in the Imperial Ballroom at the Victoria Inn. Free book for every child! Something for everyone. Free admission. Please bring your own reusable shopping bags. Sept. 7-8 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Sept. 9 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
• Sept. 8-9 — Hatch, a two-day block party style festival will take place on parking lot 2A of the Brandon University campus. The lineup of artists for Hatch’s debut includes a collection of celebrated former Brandon artists including the band Field Guide, JJ Shiplett, Roman Clarke and The Dirty Catfish Brass Band. Other musical performers include JUNO-nominated roots powerhouse The Small Glories. Hatch is an 18+ event and is open to Westman residents. Only 500 tickets are available, and they can be purchased at hatchfest.ca for $30 per day or $50 for both days.
• Sept. 9 — At the Farm Gate, fall market at the Onanole Rec Centre 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Become a “locavore” and discover the artisan gifts and farm fresh products that are waiting to be purchased right in our own backyard.
• Sept. 9-10 — Gossip in the Graveyard, the historical tour of the Brandon Cemetery. Local actors from Assiniboine Theatre Company portray the roles of remarkable famous and infamous “residents” of the cemetery and share personal biographical details with participants. This “lively” two-hour interactive walking tour takes place Saturday, at 5 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. Sunday, at 3 p.m. and 3:15 p.m. Admission is $20. Call 204-727-0694 to reserve your spot. • Sept. 10 — Brayden King hits the stage at the Amphitheatre in the Keystone Centre with special guest Mitchell Makoons! Last year, Brayden secured a golden ticket to Hollywood from the judges of American Idol. Idol judge Luke Bryan described the singer as having a style as a mix between Chris Stapleton and Ed Sheeran.
